During the past months, Floris has gathered some of his favourite presents for our Christmas giftshop.
Floris: “I am a city dweller through and through. Yet, I often fantasise about nature and the outdoors.
The way of life in those places really captures the imagination. Like these mugs, I find them irresistible. When I look at them, my mind immediately shows me visions of a campfire, a little stone wall by a creek, and long walks through the wilderness. They should come with some dents and scratches, but I’m sure they’ll appear over time.”
Floris: "Every so often we have new coffee mugs made that we use in the office. I always try my best to come up with a fun new design so that it feels brand-new.
After a mug with a pooping deer by the logo (don't ask me why) and a mug with aliens in the logo (don't ask me why), we now have this one. It was extra expensive to produce because the print is in an odd place, but the Dutch pun had to be made."

Floris: "For my work, I have to cut into a sheet of leather from time to time.
All too often the scissors we have here are so blunt that my fingers are almost falling off as I work. Until I came across these scissors online. 'Made of surgical steel', it said. That sounds like marketing guff, but in my desperation I bought them anyway. And guess what ... my cutting frustrations disappeared overnight. These things are truly razor-sharp and stay that way. Our design studio is now full of them, and I have also replaced the two worn-out pairs in my kitchen drawer with these black cutting machines. To complete the set, the scissors come with a Pritt stick and two coffee mugs. These are the three tools we use by far the most in our design studio."
Floris: “I once bought a set of ceramic coasters after a concert by my musical hero Shawn Mullins.
They were so weird and ugly that I just couldn’t resist buying them. They were little ceramic tiles with blurry photos of Shawn, each featuring his signature. Ever since, I have always asked my visitors if they want a signed Shawn Mullins coaster for their drink. Not to prevent stains on my table, but just for the sheer fan factor of it. Just like my musical tiles, these felt coasters offer loads of entertainment value. They’re just what you need when the in-laws come to visit. Simply feed them loads of cake, put these coasters on your table and your afternoon is guaranteed to be over in a flash."
Floris: "My 7 and 9-year-old nephews recently, and quite loudly, counted all the things in my house in the shape of an animal. As it turns out, I've got quite a few of those...
An octopus candlestick, grasshopper statuettes, elephant book stoppers, a stuffed duck and rooster, a donkey ottoman, a black porcelain panther, a zebra hide, a large, wooden monkey statue and so much more. After they left, I pulled the decorative cork in the shape of a deer head from the bottle of red wine that was waiting for me and took some time to think about this. I came to this conclusion: ‘You can take humans out of nature, but you can't take nature out of humans.’ Enjoy this lovely wine stopper, and drink responsibly!"
Floris: "One of the most wonderful questions in the world, right after ‘Will you marry me’, is: ‘How do you like your eggs?’
It either means you're in a good hotel or near someone who truly cares for you. If you are the one asking this question, then these egg holders are just the thing for you. With these dinosaur egg holders, you're a lot less likely to face that fried egg smell with an empty stomach on Sunday morning. These holders are so great that almost everyone will want to fill them with a freshly boiled egg. Perfect!"
Floris: “I’m not quite at the level of computer game programming, but this is the next best thing.
All by my own fair hand: ‘Floris van Bommel and the raiders of the floppy heel’! A spectacular game with a metal marble… Let’s play!” Labyrinth comes in festive packaging including a card with a note by Floris on why he has chosen this gift.
“Happy Holidays!”
