"This shoe wasn’t created on the drawing board”

Floris about this item:

“This shoe wasn’t created on the drawing board, but right at our desk in the design room. Halfway through our development process, a lot of loose materials, soles and leather samples start piling up. Stuff is everywhere. For me, that is the moment to start freestyling. I just take something that is lying around, cut it in half, glue something from another shoe onto it and then staple a piece of rubber or something to it. Many times, this leads nowhere, but sometimes there’s a eureka moment. And when that happens, you know you’ve got something original. This shoe, and especially the sole, is a good example. It’s always great when I bring one of these tinker projects to our product development people. They’re very skilled professionals who turn the ideas of the designers into actually usable soles and parts. I always have to have a chat with them before they take my naïve-looking projects seriously, but it always works out in the end. So this shoe is 100% original and has been made with much joy.”
